Staying Motivated When Running Your Business Feels Overwhelming

How to stay motivated when you just feel like staying in bed!

Running your own business is exciting and it allows you freedom, creativity, and the satisfaction of serving your clients on your own terms and in your own unique way. As a female business owner, you pour your heart into creating stunning graphics, websites, and content. However, we all face moments when motivation seems to vanish, leaving us feeling lost, stuck, or overwhelmed. It's during these times that we need to refuel our minds and find our passion again. So, let's dive into a game plan that will help you create motivation for times when all you feel like doing is staying in bed!

The downward spiral….

Life has a way of throwing curveballs that can leave us feeling demotivated and filled with despair. Recently, I found myself in that very position—I was down in the dumps, and my greatest achievement for the week was simply getting out of bed each morning! It was a challenging time, and a combination of factors contributed to my feelings of hopelessness. For me, it always seems to be a multi-layered effect.

Firstly, I began to doubt if I was making progress as quickly as I had hoped. The sense of urgency to reach my goals was overwhelming, and it seemed like every step forward was followed by two steps back. I felt like a snail stuck in peanut butter…SLOOOOOW!

Secondly, I found myself questioning the quality of my creations. Doubts crept in, whispering that my work wasn't good enough, that I was falling short of my own standards. And to make matters worse, my own mind seemed to turn against me, bombarding me with daily attacks on my self-worth and highlighting everything that was supposedly wrong with me.

It was during this challenging time that I created my Mind Fuel daily checklist to reignite my motivation and have a bigger goal than just getting through the day. I needed something fun, light and easy to get me back onto the positivity track.

So there I was, in my downward spiral rabbit hole of I’m not good enough, when I remembered what a coach had said to me last year….She said, “Jade, you need to fuel your mind, use your words, and join a community of like minded people who are seeking the same as you, success & transformation.”

Find light in the darkness….

That was a lightbulb moment for me! Because I realized how I got to the bottom of the rabbit hole was by my negative thinking which was on repeat! As well as my complaining & verbalizing my frustrations daily! I was fueling my mind negatively by believing my “stinking thinking”. I was complaining and isolating myself because I was feeling miserable!

Now that I know this I can change it!

I took some time to reflect on what “fuel your mind”, “use your words”, and “join a community” actually looks like for me…. And here’s what I came up with.

Fuel your mind: Reframe your thoughts (and stick them on post-it notes everywhere), make a gratitude list and a weekly wins list, read inspiring stories of people succeeding at the thing you want to achieve, and watch motivational videos.

Use your words: Speak LIFE, read allowed your goals, and dreams. Look at yourself in the mirror and speak out loud inspiring affirmations or positive sayings about yourself. It feels uncomfortable but it WORKS to help you move out of feeling depressed and hopeless.

Join a community: Find a group of people that are also seeking success and self development enthusiasts. Find a group of successful business owners and join them for meet ups ( Even when you don't feel like it! )

My game plan….

Sounds simple, but the real magic lies in taking action. So to help myself take daily action I created a Google Keep list. Below are some examples, but what really helps me stay out the disempowering rabbit hole is by doing these “small” things daily. And if I miss a day I don't beat myself up about it nor feel guilty, I just carry on doing it.

The "small" things I do daily or weekly are Mind Fuel exercises, writing our what I am grateful for, and taking not of my weekly wins. I use Google Keep on my phone with beautiful headers to keep track of everything.

My gift to you….

Google Keep Headers

I also know myself, being a creative, whatever I do needs to be “beautiful” or in my style in order for me to keep up the habit. So I created these Google Keep headers to make it an aesthetically pleasing environment that I will want to keep coming back to. And I have created a Canva template for you too!!

Grab it here and make it your own!

This is what helped me and I hope it does the same for you. My wish is for you to embrace this entrepreneurial journey, be kind to yourself, and take action.
